Genesis 12: 1 - 17:27
The Almighty commands Avram (later renamed Abraham) to leave Haran and go to "the place that I will show you" (which turned out to be the land of Canaan - later renamed the Land of Israel). The Almighty then Avram gives an eternal message to the Jewish people and the nations of the world, "I will bless those who bless you and him who curses you I will curse." Find a hungry, Avram travels to Egypt (since renamed to be part of the Arab United Republic) asking Sarai (later renamed Sarah), to say that she is his sister so they do not kill him to marry her (the Egyptians were particular not to commit adultery ... then they would kill her husband instead).
Pharaoh expelled Avram Egypt after trying to take Sarai his wife. They settle in Hebron (also known as Kiryat Arba) and his nephew Lot settles in Sodom. Avram rescues Lot - who was trapped - in the Battle of the Four Kings against the Five Kings.
Entering into an alliance with the Almighty (all agreements with the Almighty are eternal, never to be revoked or replaced by new agreements), Avram is said that their descendants will be enslaved for 400 years and that his descendants (via Isaac, ". .. through Isaac will offspring be considered its" general 21: 8 Isaac, not Ishmael) will be given the earth. from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates'
Sarai, childless, gives her servant Hagar to Abram for a wife so that he will have children. Ishmael (the alter zedeh - the grandfather - of our Arab cousins) is born. The alliance mila Brit , religious circumcision is made (read 17: 3-8), G-d changes their names to Abraham and Sarah and tell them that Sarah will give birth to Yitzhak (Isaac). Abraham circumcised all the men of his house.
Although outnumbered too, Avram (before it was renamed Abraham) rescued his nephew Lot captive and all the others who had been captured with him. When Abraham returned victorious, the Torah states:
"Malkitzedek King of Sholaim brought out bread and wine, and he was a priest of G-d, the highest He (Malkitzedek) blessed (Avram) and said, 'Blessed be Abram to G-d Most High, Creator of heaven and earth and blessed be G-d Most High who has delivered your enemies into your hand "(Genesis 14: 18-20).
The Talmud (Nedorim 32b) states that Malkitzedek wrong to express gratitude first to Abraham, then to G-d . We should be grateful to those who do us a favor, but at the same time, we must realize that G-d is the ultimate source of all favors.
To strengthen the muscles of your heart, the best exercise is to lift the spirit of another person.
When G-d said to Avraham Lech Lecha, he said to Avraham to go to his interior to find the anwers for that ocasion. The LORD had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you. But he had to walk to a new path to know new people for a new networking.
Focus on making your dreams come true. Be aware of investing in yourself and the people who believe in you. Adverse circumstances are not part of your life. They are just distractions, obstacles that when faced effectively will make you stronger. Keep your face turned towards Hashem and his precepts and everything will turn out for your good.
Know what you are willing to die ... and then live for it!
Shabbat Shalom,
R. Tank
